Rice Street ​​Gardens

​We currently are accepting no ​ new gardeners.
If you are a returning gardener or have contacted us before February 9th, be sure to fill out and return the registration form below.  Do not submit your $20 fee at this time.

To get your name on the potential gardeners list:

1.  Read the Rice Street Gardens Contract below.
2.  Print a copy of the contract, provide the information required and sign it. Your signature means you agree to all rules.   Mail the signed copy to Sherry Sanders,

3.  At our March ALL GARDENERS meetings,  you pay the $20 fee.
      There will be garden work days & workshops throughout the growing season.

​​        All RSG Gardeners are expected to read, agree and sign the contract below.


       As a gardener in the Rice St. Gardens, I agree to the following policies, 

1.    I will accept all decisions made by the leadership team  and understand that breaking any of the follwoing rules, terms, and             conditions may cause exclusion from the garden and loss of my plot.

2.    The 2017 gardening season is May 30 to October 22.  A plot is 20’ x 16’.  One plot per household.  Planting must be started              by June 1, failure to do so may result in the forfeiture of your plot.  Garden cleanup must be accomplished by October                        22,,failure to do so by this date may result in the loss of a plot during the next growing season.

3.    I will volunteer at least 4 hours for general garden construction, maintenance, or other work needed.  

4.    I will  practice organic gardening principles by not using herbicides, chemical fertilizers, human waste, or pesticides on my               plot.  Failure to abide by this rule will result in forfeiture of my gardening privileges.

5.    I will keep my garden within the assigned boundaries and maintain edges. I agree to plot line divisions, shading, and                             structures with my plot neighbors. I will not take food or plants from other gardeners’ plots. I will not take anything from the         garden that is not rightfully mine.  I will not disturb or use any materials outside of my garden plot other than the designated         community tools and resources. I will maintain my plot in an orderly fashion, keeping it free of weeds & debris. 

6.    I will keep my plot, paths, and surrounding areas clean and neat. I will separate my trash into three groups: 1) dead plants,                 leaves, and other green waste plant parts; 2) rocks, stones, and asphalt; and 3) paper, plastic, cardboard, wood, metal, etc. I             will place each type in the areas designated specifically for each. Anything I bring from my home I will take back home. I will             not bring household trash and leave it at the Rice Street Gardens.

7.    Plots are assigned and nontransferable. I may allow others to garden in my plots but I am responsible for fees, cleanup and              all other duties.

8.    I will not bring weapons or pets or other animals to the garden. No smoking or spitting in the gardens is allowed.

9.    Guests and visitors, including children, may enter the garden only if I accompany them. They must follow all rules, terms, and         conditions stated here. I will supervise my children at all times when they are in the garden. I am solely responsible for the               behavior of my guests.

10.  I will respect other gardeners, and I will not use abusive or profane language or discriminate against others. I will work to                keep the garden a secure, and enjoyable place for all participants to garden and socialize peacefully in a neighborly manner.

11.   I will not waste water.  If I use the water, I understand it is my responsibility to insure there is water in the tank after I use it              and the main spigot is turned off in a timely manner.

12.  I abide by all pedestrian crossing laws and will use the signaled crosswalks at Rice St. & Roselawn Ave. 

13.  Garden leaders will attempt to resovle gardener issues and contact those involved with the desired correction.  If no action            is taken within one week of being contacted any fees paid will be forfeited and the plot will be either re-assigned to other                garden members.

14.  I forfeit my right to sue the property owner The Board of Water Commissioners of the City of Saint Paul, the City of                            Maplewood, the Rice Street Gardens Organizers, or Galilee Lutheran Church.

15.  I acknowledge that I have read and understand all of the provisions of the Lease Agreement with Rice Street Community                Gardens and The Board of Water Commissioners of the City of Saint Paul.  I agree with all pertinent requirements listed                  within said Lease Agreement.  I accept failure to garden by these rules will result in forfeiture of my plot.
